Gran Canaria is more than northern european tourists and…..

With a crew (David and Katrin) from my hostel and a girl, Capers, which I met on the Las Palmas marina the day before, we all went on a small road trip and hiking trip to the rock formation Rogue Nueblo and a secluded beach called Playa Guigui where we stayed for the night under the stars.. I was amazed, being in the tourist traps of Puerto Rico, Playa del Ingles, etc the days before, gave me the impression that Gran Canaria was only hotels and wasteland – that changed.

The hike to the secluded beach was the best with a physically challenging 2 hour hike up and down the mountain ridge getting to the beach just when it got dark. We brought food and honey rum which we shared in our evening meal before going to bed at 8.30 pm sleeping on the ground under the stars. The night was warm and (mostly) dry and the mosquitos came uninvited and joined our camp – it was all goood. A few hippies live in old plantation cottages up from th beach where they cultivated the hard and rocky soil growing vegetables and what else they might need. We rised with the sun the next day and after breakfast we talked story (in spanish) with Antonio, one of the guys living there.

The pictures says it all (Too many I know).
